A Fun Time at Con: a tale from the galactic holo-wiki
Do you miss going to cons?
Me too. That’s why I created “A Fun Time at Con” a free story creation game that celebrates gathering with other fans, with the twist that you’re playing space opera heroes arriving back at your post-scarcity utopia after your adventures, and enjoying your shore leave by relaxing at con. It’s a low key “slice of life” game where you co-create a cozy futuristic vision that reminds you about what you love about cons.
- Easy to learn, simple to play. Read a few instruction cards and get started in minutes.
- Play over voice chat or video call, with one player reading the story prompts aloud to everyone.
- Over a dozen amazing and diverse character portraits by the talented Amy King.
- 47 story prompt cards organized into two acts.
- Includes a safety card, or bring your own favorite safety tool
- Create sense of wonder, and explore the way community can help us renew after we overcome challenges.
There are two versions included, a "print and play" version designed to let you create your own deck to shuffle, and a "single card" PDF, that shows the cards one at a time, so you can easily play the game (albeit in a non-random way) by reading the cards aloud from your smartphone, perhaps while playing over Discord with your friends. (In addition to these free editions, I've set a print on demand version on DriveThruCards, and will be schelping decks along at conventions, when it is safe to hold them again,)
This is a companion to Return to the Stars, my space opera RPG where you can play as genetically enhanced cosplayers painting a better future in bold primary colors. If Return is an action movie, then “A Fun Time at Con” is a slice of life anime. The games compliment each other, you buy don’t need one, to play the other. Remind yourself about what you love about going to cons, and celebrate pop culture—in space! Get you free copy of A Fun Time at Con today!
